Do I have to give my cat FelV shots annually?

My cat gets bad reaction every time she gets the shot. She would be hiding for two days (depression is actually one side affect of this shot). It must be very uncomfortable. What would happen to a cat infected with FelV? Is it possible to get the disease when the cat is 100% indoor?
