Do you use peanut butter AND butter on toast at the same time?

is it necessary to put butter on the toast before peanut butter when making a peanut butter/toast snack. i feel like the peanut butter holds all the flavor and butter adds nothing to my taste senses. my dumb girlfriend thinks butter adds wetness to the toast and insists on using both condiments. i understand using butter before jelly but peanut butter... ?? COME ON!
