Is it better to be friends then try to be lovers? ?

Im hooked on this girl. We used to talk like we liked each other, we would text everyday. But, I lived far awat. I moved in her area recently , but everythings changed . Everytime we were suppose to meet she cancels , she telling me other guys and she did something one of them that hurt me a whole lot. But , I had to console her . So shouldb I just be friends wither knowing damn well I have major feelings for her and try to be with her later on. Or should hang my desire for her heart up to dry ?
